Inframe News – Mykhailo Mudryk has joined Tottenham Hotspur from Chelsea on a season-long loan, completing the move shortly before the summer transfer window closed. The deal was confirmed on Tuesday, September 1, as Tottenham continued to strengthen their attacking options.
The 25-year-old Ukrainian winger arrives at Tottenham after a difficult period at Chelsea. Mudryk joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 but struggled to establish himself as a consistent first-choice player. He made 73 appearances for Chelsea and scored 10 goals.
The move also reunites Mudryk with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian coach previously worked with Mudryk during his time at Shakhtar Donetsk. De Zerbi said he already knows what the winger can bring to a team.
Mudryk said he was excited about the opportunity to work with De Zerbi again. He described himself as a player who can provide speed and creativity while contributing in both attacking and defensive situations. He also said he wanted to excite Tottenham supporters.
The transfer comes shortly after Mudryk was cleared to return to competitive football. His career had been interrupted by an anti-doping case involving an adverse test for meldonium in 2024. He was initially handed a four-year suspension by the Football Association.
Mudryk appealed the punishment through the Court of Arbitration for Sport. His suspension was subsequently reduced following an agreement involving the Football Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency. The decision allowed him to return to football earlier than the original ban would have permitted.
Tottenham had been looking for additional attacking options during the final stages of the transfer window. The club had pursued Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, but Manchester City completed his signing earlier on deadline day. Tottenham then moved to secure Mudryk on loan.
The Ukrainian winger is expected to add pace to Tottenham’s attack. His ability to operate in wide positions and take on defenders gives De Zerbi another option as the manager reshapes his squad. Mudryk’s previous experience in the Premier League also means he will not need to adapt to English football for the first time.
Tottenham were one of the biggest spenders in the transfer window. The club invested around £300 million during the summer as they attempted to rebuild their squad following a difficult previous campaign. The arrivals included major signings such as Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio.
Mudryk was not the only Chelsea player to move to Tottenham on deadline day. Central defender Tosin Adarabioyo also completed a permanent transfer between the London clubs for a reported £7 million. The two deals strengthened Tottenham while reducing Chelsea’s squad size.
For Chelsea, the loan represents another stage in Mudryk’s uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. The club paid a substantial fee to sign him from Shakhtar Donetsk, but his progress was interrupted before he could establish himself. The season at Tottenham now gives him an opportunity to restart his career.
Mudryk has also represented Ukraine at senior level, earning 28 international caps. His return to regular club football could give him an opportunity to regain an important role for the national team. Tottenham will now hope he can translate his pace and attacking ability into consistent performances.
